On Friday September 20, LAUNCH: Honors hosted its third annual Professional Insights Panel. The panel featured six former students who have achieved remarkable success in their careers and gave current students the opportunity to hear how these alumni turned their dreams into reality. The moderated discussion that followed allowed Honors freshmen to ask questions directly to the panelists and gain greater insight into their different career paths and life experiences.
Below are the names and biographies of the 2019 host, moderator, and panelist participants.
Stephen Horn ‘79 (Host)
Stephen Horn is the Managing Partner of Ronin Partners LLC, a private equity ﬁrm which invests capital in energy, principally technology oriented oilﬁeld service and equipment companies. Prior to Ronin Partners, Stephen was a senior energy banker at Lehman Brothers in New York and Houston. Stephen currently serves on the Industry Board for the TAMU Department of Petroleum Engineering and the Engineering Honors Steering Council.
LaRhesa Moon ’86 (Moderator)
LaRhesa Moon founded Articulate Strategic Communication in 2009. Her expertise includes crisis communication, board facilitation, community mediation, and strategic planning. She advises multiple CEOs on growth initiatives and communication strategies in diverse industries including specialty beverage, oil and gas, retail, and ﬁnancial services. Committed to the community, LaRhesa has held several philanthropic leadership positions. She is a member of Aggie Women and served as its President in 2013.
Catherine Flax ‘85
Catherine Flax is a Managing Director at CRA, Inc., focusing on providing leadership coaching to executives in Financial Services, Fintech, Commodities, Professional Services and the Non-Proﬁt sectors. Prior to this, Catherine was the CEO of Peﬁn, the world’s ﬁrst AI ﬁnancial advisor. Catherine has won ‘Most Inﬂuential Woman in European Investment Banking’ in 2012 and was placed as one of the ‘100 Most Inﬂuential Women in European Financial Markets’ in 2010 and 2011.
Ray Rothrock ‘77
Ray Rothrock is Chairman and CEO of RedSeal, Inc. an enterprise cyber security company. Previously he led the Internet and Energy Investment programs and was a member of the management committee for Venrock. His Venrock track record resulted in his being listed twice on the Forbes Midas List. A leader in the venture industry, he was elected by his peers as chairman of the National Venture Capital Association for 2012 to 2013.
Janet Pate ‘96
Janet Pate, M.D. is currently owner and CEO of Nurture Pediatrics, PLLC, an independent pediatric practice designed to provide highly personalized medical care to children and adolescents. Prior to Nurture Pediatrics, Janet served on the Medical Staﬀ Committee for Texas Children’s Hospital from 2013 to 2016 and Texas Children’s Pediatrics from 2005 to 2016. She most recently was awarded “Outstanding Community Teaching Physician” in 2006 and “Most Outstanding Pediatric Resident” from 2003 to 2004.
Tammira Philippe ‘95
Tammira Philippe is President and CEO of Bridgeway Capital Management and a member of the ﬁrm’s Board of Directors and Portfolio Review and Risk Committee. Prior to becoming President, Tammira led strategy and operations projects at Bridgeway from 2005 to 2010 and was head of Client Service and Marketing from 2010 to 2016. She earned an M.B.A. from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Computer Science from Texas A&M University.
